The Camino de Santiago routes are traveled by pilgrims who flock to Santiago de Compostela since the ninth century. The paths are spread across Europe and will get ways to Spain. The Camino de Santiago entered history for twelve centuries, when there were found the remains of the apostle St. James, or Santiago, in what is now the city of Santiago de Compostela.
Generally, the roads today are marked by yellow arrows on the floor, walls, rocks, poles, trees, roads, landmarks granite or concrete, and others. As a rule, goes straight to the most important church or oldest city. Most roads gets to Valença do Minho, where it did (does) the border crossing for Tui and then extends for about 110 kilometers. On the Portuguese side, the most frequented routes are from Lisbon, Fátima, Coimbra, Porto, Braga and Barcelos. In recent years emphasis has gained the route Lisbon - Coimbra - Porto - Rates - Barcelos - Ponte de Lima - Valencia. It is about 2 miles from Rates that you will intersect with Villa D'Arcos.
